Joining Atlantis - Where do I start?

Young Swimmers (Under 11)

If you are a swimmer progressing from lessons then we will probably take you into our Foundation programme.

We take children after they have reached level 7/8 (NPTS) following their Learn to Swim Program or similar. Concentrating on the three main strokes of Front crawl, Breaststroke and Backstroke, with the emphasis on stroke work and introducing starts, turns and Butterfly. Following the Foundation and Juniors swimmers progress into our swimming pathway programme.

Older Swimmers (11+)

Older children are welcome but the level they join at will be dependent upon ability and previous training. For the less experienced swimmers the entry route might be through Foundation, Junior development or others may go straight into the County squads. More experienced swimmers (usually those training already) will transfer to other squads.

Masters

Masters swimming is for anyone over the age of 19 not in the performance swimming squads. Our Masters are a lively and diverse group and we can offer training for a wide range of abilities.

Artistic Swimming

Atlantis Flamingos Artistic (synchronised) Swimming – developing advanced water skills. This includes strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination and precise timing as well as breath control. Synchronised swimmers build their stamina similar to speed swimmers. They choreograph routines like dancers, perform lifts like cheerleaders, perform dives like divers and work on their flexibility like gymnasts. Alongside building long lasting friendships in this unique team sport.

Disability Swimmers

Depending on swimming ability Disability swimmers will enter the club through the normal routes above to get a start in the sport.  You should fill in the trial form but if you wish to discuss specific needs feel free to contact the club  and discuss specifics. Or we can put you in touch with Sunbeam who are a local disabled swimming club for both physical and learning disabilities.

How do I Join?

The best way to start is to fill in the online trial application form (see link below) and sign up for a free trial swim or contact the club line (see below) for more information. To arrange for a trial with one of our coaches and find out more about joining Atlantis (including Masters) please email us at atlantis.membership@gmail.com for more information. Please complete a Trial Session Application Form before arriving for your trial.

How do Trials Work?

Membership of Atlantis is open to all swimmers from 7 years of age and over, who are swimming at least Swim England level 7, preferably level 8, and who are successful at a trial session. Trials take place on select days and details will be sent ahead of the date.

Once through this stage you then be invited to train with us, for a week. Swimming competitively is quite a commitment and these sessions will help you decide whether or not you wish to join fully.

The squad you join is at the discretion of the coaches, however, normally, if you are new to a swimming club and depending on age you will be asked to join either Tasters or Foundation. The majority of our squads train across our three sites which include Pavilions in the Park Horsham, Billingshurst Leisure Centre and Steyning Leisure Centre and we also use K2 for long course training.

Can you Teach me to Swim?

Sorry we do not teach swimming this is as part of the partnership with the Pavilions in the Park, Horsham. You can contact them on this link - https://www.placesleisure.org/centres/the-pavilions-in-the-park/centre-activities/swimming/learn-to-swim/ Other local swim schools also feed into our squads.

How do I transfer from another club?

Please contact the club and discuss your requirements via email.  We will need to understand the level you are swimming at and your race times.  We can then discuss a trial in the most appropriate squads. We may ask you to meet with our coaching team to discuss your training.
